Post Season Awards for PHS:
From Lansing State Journal's Tim Weatherhead & Sean Merriman:
Coach of the Year:  Jamie Grennell
Jamie Grennell has been trying to convince Perry High to form a girls bowling team for some time now. Through determination
and a never-give-up attitude, Grennell's request was finally rewarded this year and she was hired as the program's first head coach.  The Ramblers entered their first season without school funding and a roster filled with underclassmen. Expectations were not high.  "Our goals coming into the season were to work really hard and show the school that bowling is deserving of being a varsity sport," Grennell said. "We really wanted to represent Perry in a positive way."  The first-year team finished the season with an 8-4 league record and finished second in the CAAC Gold/White conference. They earned a second-place finish in their regional meet and advanced all the way to the state quarterfinals before losing to Sandusky.  "When you think about what we accomplished this year given the circumstances, it is truly an amazing story," Grennell said.  The Ramblers had all-league performers in Jessica Cords, Torie Grennell and Alicia Taphouse. Cords, a freshman, finished with the second- highest average in the league and recorded the highest game score in league play with a 253.  "Coach kept motivating us to do our best and that really helped us improve as a team," Cords said. "She had been talking about getting this team together for a long time and I am just happy it finally happened."
Grennell credits the team's success to the girls' relentless effort and the constant support they received from each other and their parents. The team held numerous fundraisers in order to raise money for uniforms and the chance to play in statewide tournaments.  "Both the kids and parents showed phenomenal support in getting this program on the right track," Grennell said.  Grennell and her team were honored this past week at a Perry school board meeting. Each individual team member was presented a certificate in honor of their outstanding season.
Dream Team Member:  Jessica Cords, Freshman
Cords was second in the CAAC Gold/White with a 184.5 average and had its highest game (253) and series (452). She made the Division 3 state quarterfinals.
Honorable Mentions: Alicia Taphouse, Senior; Torie Grennell, Junior; Tanner Grennell, Freshman

Capitol Bowl Supports "In-School Bowling"

by Offering Bowling-101 to Area Elementary and Middle Schools
School year 2009-10 will be our second year in this program.  In the 2008-09 school year, bowling was offered as part of the physical education program at six Owosso elementary/middle schools.  We purchased six portable lanes which the school uses for one month.  Each PE Instructor is certified to teach Bowling-101.  At the end of the school year, each PE student was given a pass for a free game of bowling (shoes included) to try their skill on actual lanes.  For more information on the program & how your school can participate, please contact Theresa Trecha at Capitol Bowl, 989-725-7717.
PE Instructors may contact Tracy Long directly (866-861-5163 / tracy@bowling-101.com).
